A friend of mine and I were laughing yesterday while watching the Billaboard Music Awards. She had mentioned on Facebook that the BBMAs were like the dry salad of awards shows. I disagreed saying that it was more like a soggy salad. Maybe even a soggy salad from yesterday that you shouldn't have taken home in a to-go box. Luckily, there's still always what people are wearing to keep the dream of it being fun alive. And also T. Swift making out with Calvin Harris... GO GIRL!
BRYSHERE Y. GRAY in AN AWESOME SUIT
Bryshere is one of the break-out stars of Empire and I can totally tell why. I am loving this textured suit on the red carpet. I love that it's exciting and fun. Very memorable.
KYLIE JENNER in BALMAIN
I know that Kylie is like a reincarnation of Kim. They've obviously (allegedly) used the same surgeon because their faces have just become more and more similar. But I can't help but love her style. Balmain is one of my favorite deisgners. There were a number of other stars on the red carpet wearing Balmain including T. Swift, Lily Alderidge and Kylie's sis, Kendall. I think Kylie looks amazing. Keep doin' you girl.
MARTHA HUNT in A PURPLE DRESS
I feel like this dress is Stella McCartney, but I am not 100% sure. That's why I went with her just being in a purple dress. Luckily, it's an awesome purple dress. I've definitely seen this style a lot because the skin colored colorblocks are so flattering. It's an optical illusion that wittles down the waist like no other. I totally get why this is a frequently chosen silhouette.
OLIVIA CULPO in ELIE SAAB & NICK JONAS in KENZO
Cute couple, but the standout of this pairing is that GD romper. I need that sparkly thing in my life. Immediately. Shut up and take my money. Also, love the purple suit Nick. He rocked a yellow plaid one that I also loved pretty recently. He's kind of knocking it out of the park.
RENEE BARGH in A SLEEK SUIT
I should have probably done a quick Google search and figured out exactly who Ms. Bargh is, but I feel like that ruins the fun. I'm just going to keep it a mystery and just love on her menswear inspired look. If I were to wear a suit ever, this is how I would do. This is probably why I've never had an office job.
TAYLOR SWIFT in BALMAIN
I love when T. Swift slathers on the sex appeal. I've been eyeing this little number from Balmain ever since it showed up on the Spring 2015 runway. It's hard to tell from this images, but it's full beaded and super sparkly in real life. So stinkin' pretty. I'm super jelly Swift. Also "Bad Blood" has been my fav song off of the most recent album. Glad to see it has an epic video to go along with.
ZENDAYA in FAUSTO PUGLISI
Mismatchiness is my favorite. I love when people pull off an awesome print on print situation. There's some serious sea urchin-ness sewn onto this thing and I still love it. So fun.
HAPPY MONDAY Y'ALL! MUCH LOVE, LINDSEY
The MTV Movie Awards is always such a fun event. It's one of those events where people just go to promote a new project and it's always just a party atmosphere. Luckily, that way everybody kind of steps out of the box and wears some fun outfits. Here are some of my faves :)
MICHAEL B. JORDAN
I love a good funky suit on a guy. The colors are weird. The plaid on plaid makes me a little nauseous. But, I still love it. Great job making your attendance known MBJ. Also, can I just say that I watched That Awkward Moment recently and really enjoyed it? Maybe it's because I'm mildly obsessed with Miles Teller... but it also might be because I imagine people walking up to Michael B. Jordan on the street asking him if his wiener looks like a snowman nose all the time. If you haven't seen the movie, you probably should check it out for an eyeroll and chuckle.
SCAR JO in Zuhair Murad
I also love a good jumpsuit. Romper, Jumpers, Pantsuits... These are my fashion life. Not to mention Scar had a kid in the last year and looks amazing. She's totally channeling Claire Underwood from House of Cards and I can see how this outfit could look a little "old". But I think she's rocking it and looks amazing.
MILES TELLER in the jacket I wore the other day
Seriously I have this jacket in grey. Miles and I are basically best fashion friends then. I really like him. I love how much of an ass he gets to act in movies and the fact that he's a drummer is pretty cool too. Lookin' good Teller.
ANNA CAMP in Peter Pilotto
I love this dress! It's a rareity for me to actually see something at award shows that I think, "I would wear that in real life!" I have a Peter Pilotto from Target piece that came out last year, but it might be time to think about upgrading and grabbing a dress from his collection. Perhaps for Hunter and Caitlin's upcoming wedding?
BAI LING in an effing dragon
I was JUST talking about how I needed a dragon outfit for the Game of Thrones premiere and enter Bai Ling with everything I need in life. I don't know how I feel about the skirt, but the whole dragon get up on top... Need this in my life. Leave it to Bai Ling to make it statement.
Any favorites on the list that I missed? Write in the comments or tweet me! (@lindseybell)
Much Love, Linds
Scarlett Johansson in Versace
More than anything, I love this color. There was so much white and red, it was refreshing to see a little evergreen on the carpet.
Neil Patrick Harris in Brunello Cucinelli
NPH's suits for this whole show were epic. My favorite is this grey one he wore on the red carpet with his hubs. I want this for Danny so much. Plus, look at this great couple. So handsome.
Lupita Nyong'o in Calvin Klein
Lupita, Lupita, Lupita... how you pull at my heartstrings with your wild fashion red carpet choices! The pearls are gorgeous. My mom commented that it didn't fit quite well, but c'mon, it's made for her! It doesn't have to be perfectly formfitting. I think she looks great!
Kevin Hart in Lanvin
I love Kevin Hart and I'm happy to see him gain more success each year. Plus I love the black on ivory mixx of his tux. Very rock star-ish.
Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab
Gosh is this woman beautiful. She's stunning. Just wow.
Gwyenth Paltrow in Ralph & Russo
This pink column dress is a little reminiscent of the Oscar gown Gwyneth wore when she won her Oscar for Shakespeare in Love. I love the shoulder detail.
Emma Stone in Elie Saab
I love, love, love this color on Emma. If I wore this I would look sick, but with her skintone and lovely red hair she really knocks it out of the park. It's like I said about Scar Jo, this year there was so much white and red, it's a breath of fresh air to see some other colors on the carpet.
Eddie Redmayne in Alexander McQueen
I think Eddie Redmayne is such a sexy guy. It's the whole boy next door thing, but times a million. Boyish smile, frecks... He's just gorgeous. But more than him, McQueen is hands down my favorite designer. I've been a huge fan of his work since I was really young and was deeply saddened when he passed when I was just a teen. I love how Brits represent him so well still. Even Kate Middleton got married in a McQueen. I know it is mostly because of the beauty Sarah Burton has kept in the line, but I also like to think it's an homage to their countrymen. Great choice Eddie!
David Oyelowo in Dolce and Gabbana
Love the red on red. This is bold and fun. I've loved all the guys trying out new looks and stepping out of the black and white tuxes into something more fun. Usually my lists are all about the girls, but I had a hard time not doing a whole list of dudes!!!
Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad
Chrissy Teigen is such a beautiful person. I know she's a model and she could basically wear a potato sack and still look stunning, but I always love her fashion choices. I like to believe that I would wear what she wears if I had the chance.
Chris Pratt in Tom Ford
Just because eye candy...
Rita Ora in Marchesa
And last, but definitely not least... the apple of my red carpet eye... Miss Ora. During my Grammy's post I wanted her to keep the hair and I am happy to see she took my advice :) She looks amazing, as per usual. She gravitates towards mermaid gowns on the red carpet and makes them memorable by adding embellishments, like this one, or color, like her Grammy's dress. It's something to say when you know what works for you. Love it Rita!
Who was your favorite?
Much Love, Lindsey
Last night the AMAs took to the airwaves to provide a little musical entertainment for our Sunday night. I think most of the performances were largely underwhelming, but at least there were some fashion stand-outs to applaud! Here's some of my favorites:
Jhene´ Aiko in Alice and Olivia
There's something about this dress that I love. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I am drawn to it. It might be because it's different than what everyone else had on, or that it's Alice and Olivia (a line that I have loved, but never owned a piece of personally) that makes me attracted to it. I've heard a lot about this new R&B breakout singer in the last week too. In the fashion world, she's done a holiday spread for Revolve Clothing, one of my favorite online shops. It's the perfect storm of interest. She's pulled me in.
Julianne Hough in Zuhair Murad
I can't deny my love for coral-y orange. It's my favorite color to wear. I also love how simple this dress is, but still sexy and dazzling. This is what I would wear on a red carpet guaranteed.
The Kardashian/Jenner Clan in Yigal Azrouel (on Kendall), Versace (on Khloe) and Alexandre Vauthier (on Kylie)
It's pretty easy to tell that these ladies own a retail store, have stylists in their family and keep up with what's going on in fashion. I always love what they're wearing, even if they themselves drive me nuts. I know that Kendall is a professional model and models look great in just about anything, but I love her mesh dress. Khloe looks amazing and Kylie's shoes are to die for. I read on some fashion blogs about how they thought Kylie's dress was a little sexual for a 17 year old to be running around in, but let's face it... Kylie isn't a normal 17 year old. I mean she dates a 25 year old rapper and had plastic surgery (allegedly) already. Either way, I think she and they look great.
I love the bold statements that Rita always makes with her pieces! I am a huge fan of staying true to your style and edginess of your personality. Rita always rings true. I've seen mixed reviews of this dress across other sites. I think you either love it or hate it. One blogger wrote that the train would be hard to deal with. Have you never seen Zac Posen's dresses? To be anointed the honor to wear one on the red carpet, you must first prove you can handle all the fabric! I don't actually know if that's true, but sometimes with fashion comes pain or annoyance, but in this case, the beauty of the final product is completely worth it.
Here's another addition of my favorites for award season. Let me know what you guys think about this. I really like doing it, but definitely understand how doing every award show could get annoying. What's your opinion? Let me know!
I am in love with all the Tangerine Dream-ish oranges that were worn on the red carpet this year!!! I always love when there is a lot of color in the gowns for award shows. It makes everything so much more interesting. Heidi Klum looks amazing in this Zac Posen coral number. That's how to make a cape work. I was worried about the whole cape thing in dresses, but this is really beautiful. Not that I am surprised, I feel like anything Zac Posen puts together always takes my breath away. This one is no different.
Louise Roe in this Monique Lhullier is perfect. I love the draping and that there is a bit of the coral color, but still is unique enough to set apart from all the rest of the orange gowns. And I love her shoes!!!! I think the fact that she left the jewelry to a minimum and wore a sleek bun, let the dress keep all the attention. Great styling!
Uhhhhh I love this look! I've loved Christian Siriano ever since he was on Project Runway. I am so happy to see him come into his own and seeing his creations on the red carpet more often! Sarah Hyland kills it in this! Apparently I have an absolute obsession with crop tops because they have definitely stuck out to me as favorite looks for the two red carpet faves I've done. Love the coral, the crop and the bun.
Peter Dinklage is the only dude who makes my list today and I think it's pretty obvious why. This suit is a perfect fit for him and I love that he wore a vest to keep it classy. Kit Harrington, his co-star from Game of Thrones, decided to forgo the vest leaving his white shirt glaring through the little triangle where his jacket opened above his pants. I don't know why that bothered me so much because it seems so trivial. And then I saw how impeccable Peter looked and it was apparent how vests really clean up the suit. For more casual outings I would say the vest is overkill, but for showing up and potentially winning an award for your craft, it makes sense to cover all your bases and look your best. I think Peter definitely looks his best.
I love the cut of this dress on January Jones! The peek-a-boo to see her fun shoes is awesome. Her dress almost perfectly matches the red carpet, but definitely isn't shadowed by it. I don't really think this dress was a risk, or is anything groundbreaking, I just like that it adds a little fun to the normal ball gown.
This dress is hot!!!! And Keke Palmer is pretty hot filling it in too! I appreciate the workmanship to make this dress fit so perfectly. A seamstress, or perhaps the designer himself, spent some time making this dress a second skin to Keke's. And it paid off. Her stylist deserves a raise for this one. Fantastic job and she looks amazing!
Alright y'all, what were your faves from the Emmy's? I look forward to hearing your opinions!
