The Most Positive New Music to Get You Through Your Week

Happy Monday! Back again with my third installment of New Music Mondays. I know I say this every week, but music is my favorite thing to blog about. This week I noticed a bit of a theme happening in new music that I found. Everything is overwhelmingly positive. It must be correlated with the beginning of Spring. Or maybe everyone is just happy right now. Whatever the reason, I'm always glad to have some extra positivity in my life. Here's a few of my favorite song I found this week!

FourFiveSeconds - Rihanna, Kanye West, Paul McCartney

I'm probably a little late to the Rihanna, Kanye, Paul party that is FourFiveSeconds and I am sad that I didn't give this song a shot the day it came out. It's beautiful. It's a little bit country sounding and I love the grittiness of it. Rih kills it. She's like the girl who can do no wrong in life. She legit wears hammer pants out in thr world and always looks amazing. I seriously am ashamed of myself for not giving this song more of a chance the minute I first heard about it. I guess I'm just the type of person who doesn't pay attention to the hype, especially when the hype about this song had nothing to do with how great it is and all to do with, "Oh my gosh, why would Paul McCartney make a song with Kanye?!?" Listen to it and you know why.

This a song is about Rihanna... hahaha no it's not. It's actually a song written by The Police, first heard on a 1977 demo and then released to some serious praise in 1981. This was one of my favorite songs growing up because I thought it was what being love sounded like. What does love sound like you say? I have some other examples: Yesterday by The Beatles, A Drop in the Ocean by Ron Pope, Kissing You (Insturmental) from Romeo and Juliet or Tautou by Brand New. I don't really know how to explain it. They're just the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I am pretty excited to hear it redone in such a beautiful way. Everybody needs a little romance and Every Little Thing definitely brings it.

Five More Hours - Deorro, Chris Brown

This song makes me want to walk down a huge hallway and point at people while dancing. And then maybe go to a real party I guess, but more just dance/walk and point at people. Maybe use a hairbrush or stapler as an impromptu prop microphone while I point. You get the point. I boycotted Chris Brown for a really, really long time, but I figure it's time to lift it. I'm not saying I approve of his moral character, I'm just saying I might be able to listen to some music that he's on again. If Rih can move on, I guess I can too.

Lean On - Major Lazer

Major Lazer is my boy. No literally, it's one of Diplo's monikers that he so frequently switches out, and he's not literally my boy, I'm just a huge fan of his music. Lean On is a lot more radio friendly and less about asses than a typical Diplo jam. I appreciate that he is making the switch and also helping produce for so many huge pop acts that it's probably just a natural progression. Love, love, love the lyrics video for the song too. It's very hypnotizing. Usually, I would say just buy the song because every one I put on these posts is awesome, but this is one where checking out the YouTube link is a good idea too.

Undressed - Kim Cesarion

"Hi my name is whatever you call me" is definitely my favorite lyrics from this song. Maybe it's because he sings it in his falsetto voice, or just because it makes me smile, but I'm glad I randomly found it. This song is pretty old, like came out in 2013. But it's new to me so it's on the list :)

Retro (Rough) - Childish Gambino

I am a huge Donald Glover / Childish Gambino fan. He's just one of those really talented people who can do just about anything he's puts his mind to. I also love that he got his start on YouTube and that this song truly is a rough cut where he coughs at the end of a chorus and just lets it go to finish the song. He's got too much stuff to get done to do more than one take y'all.

Ok, so this song isn't the happiest if you really listen to the lyrics. I think it might be a break-up song even. But that flute starts at the beginning and it's hard not to smile. Plus, the lyrics are all about hoping that the person finds "a love that's true so the morning light will shine one you" so it sounds like at least they want the best for each other? Whatever, I've decided you cannot not smile when you are listening to this.

It's just so easy to listen to.

Get It - Matt & Kim

Matt & Kim are a really fun group. She drums, he sits behind a keyboard and they throw ridiculously energetic live shows. There's always one song on each of their album's that I end up loving. Plus Get It kind of sounds like it's sampled the song from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I think that totally adds to its appeal.

Where are Ü Now - Jackü

To preface: this song is not positive, it's just really good and you should own it. Jackü is the duo of Skrillex and Diplo. Another of Diplo's many side projects. But they are blowing up. Well, they've already blown up individually, but they are taking their newly bonded musical stylings to the world and it's good. On this song they recruited the talent of little known artist, Justin Bieber. I would have never thought Bieber would release music with Diplo and Skrillex, not even considering the fact that it's been over two years since he's released anything new. Six months ago if you told me this song would I come out, I would have said, "That's as unbelievable as Kanye making a song with Paul McCartney!" Wait...
