The Grammys, arguably my favorite awards show red carpet, happened last night, and I was not disappointed by the fashion turnout! The Grammys are a chance for stars to push the envelope. It's black tie, but not too fussy (like the Oscars). Everyone can have fun, and have fun they did. Let's check out my faves!
SAM SMITH in ARMANI
It's no secret that I love Sam. His voice lights up my soul. In my eyes, there is no one more deserving of the credit he received last night. He was wearing Armani, but looked great decked out with his new gold accessories!
TAYLOR SWIFT in ELIE SAAB
I am a reformed Taylor Hater. I always thought she wasn't coming through as sincere and that she was putting on a bit of an act. But with the release of her newest album, I believe she has revealed her true self to the world. I like her sassiness so much more than her put-on innocence. I also love her new found sex appeal. She used to just be a sparkly, column gown kind of girl, but lately (think her little romper from the VMA's), she's been rocking some super awesome frocks. This little ombre gown-y dress thing is no different. The best part: the awesome magenta heels to boot. Kill 'em Tay.
I don't usually give a lot of love to the boys at these things, but last night I even saw some guys pushing the envelope in a good way. Usher went totally monochromatic and without a traditional tie or bowtie and I love it. Man broaches are my new favorite accessory for dudes.
RITA ORA in PRADA
Bring on the disco ball jokes! I love the cut and the way this dress makes her stand out in the crowd, but it's not my favorite. What I love most about her last night, was THAT HAIR! She looks amazing. I hope she sticks with this look for a minute because she can rock it like no other.
PHARRELL in ADIDAS
Just a year ago, Pharrell was taking the red carpet in that ridiculous hat. How would he outdo that? What could be crazier than a hat bigger than him? Luckily, he took it to the next level, but in a much more sophisticated way. I like the shorts suit. I'm feelin' it. What's even cooler, is that he's promoting his line with Adidas. A line, that reflects light, say from a camera flash, to look different than in natural light. The suit is ivory here, but in person (or without a flash) was grey. A cool way to have a little fun with the paps.
KIM K in JEAN PAUL GAULTIER
Oh Kimmy. Even a sparkly bathrobe looks great on you. Check out them shoulder pads tho! Gaultier's team probably did 75 hours of stitching work on this thing. Insane.
NICK JONAS in VERSACE
Little Nick is all grown up and looking sexy in this plaid suit. Love the yellow details and being tieless. If only he got the man broach memo from Usher...
KATY PERRY in ZUHAIR MURAD
This is beautiful. Just like Kim K's, the craftsmanship on this dress is incredible. It's hard to tell here, but on the runway, this little number was completely sheer. I am sure they added some coverage for Katy, but probably not much. Love the lavender hair on her too.
JHÉNE AIKO in ALBERTA FERRETTI
This little nugget is adorable. She has to be about to blow-up because she is starting to show up everywhere. I had her on my AMAs Favorites List too! I am all about neutrals usually, so this is a no-brainer gown for me. The fluffy bodice looks great on her too!
CIARA in ALEXANDRE VAUTHIER
Speaking of fluffiness, Ciara looked beautiful in this Vauthier creation. The train is my favorite part!
BEYONCE in PROENZE SCHOULER
Of course I love Beyonce. She can do no wrong in my eyes. My favorite part is her long extensions. She looks comfortable, natural and beyond beautiful. I also loved her rings.
Such a fun little collection of pieces. The green stones are to die for!
RIHANNA in GIAMBATTISTA VALLI
And the absolute star of the Grammys last night was Miss Rih. This is how to make a statement. It's also a testament to the fact that she is one of the only people in the world who can wear ANYTHING and always look fabulous. Would I ever wear this dress? No. Does that matter to me right now? No. She is a superstar.
